SRS Encounter Ranger Guides
Baulkham Hills SRS Encounter Ranger Guides are aged between 14 and 18 years. They get 'booted out' on their 18th birthday, then they have the opportunity to continue in Guiding as Unit Leaders and/or members of the Olave Program.
The Unit Mascot for SRS Encounter is a penguin, and we affectionately call ourselves Penguins. Our Unit colours are green and gold.
For us as girls in our late teens, the Guiding program becomes more adventurous and provides exciting opportunities to explore the outdoors and gain skills and experiences that will help us in our careers. The pressures of school are alleviated a bit by the fun things we do, and we forge strong friendships that help us through life.
Outdoor activities are a large part of our program, and they include canoeing, kayaking, rowing, sailing, abseiling, hiking, flying, rock climbing, caving and more.
We explore the greater world and how we can provide service to our community, nation and the globe. There are opportunities to camp or attend global conferences overseas, and to be part of the future of Australian Guiding through the Girls' Advisory Panel program. We can learn leadership skills by being Junior Leaders with younger girls, and many of us take on this additional role and become exceptional leaders.
We also provide opportunities to go for internationally recognised awards of the Queen's Guide, Commonwealth Award, and the Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. We fully support those girls who want to earn these awards, and over the past four years, we have produced seven Queen's Guides and several Duke of Edinburgh Awardees of various levels.
We also get opportunities to learn how to do jobs that will hold us in good stead as adults. Every member of the Unit takes on a role such as Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Environmental Officer, Advocacy Officer, Events Coordinator and others. Taking on these roles gives us additional skills that many adults do not have, and are great additions to our resumes.
SRS Encounter Ranger Guide Unit is a thriving and dynamic bunch of girls and leaders who are having fun learning, achieving and exploring. Come join us.
We are looking for girls between the ages of 14 and 17 to expand our Unit. If you are interested in joining, and having fun hiking, boating, caving and lots of other fun activities, please send an email through this link.
